MACRAO Legislative Update-December 1, 2023

Good morning MACRAO-

The MACRAO Governmental Relations Committee wanted to check in with you as we approach the upcoming Missouri 103rd General Assembly session beginning in January 2024. First, we would like to introduce the MACRAO Governmental Relations team for the upcoming year. This group will track the bills and issues that may be of interest to the MACRAO membership. We will send out emails periodically throughout the legislative session to keep you informed about what is being discussed. If you see additional articles or information that you think would be of interest to MACRAO, we welcome you to share them with a member of this group.

Below we have included links that you can use to read more about the bills that are being proposed in the Missouri Legislature.

Additionally, the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (DHEWD) offers legislative updates each week while the General Assembly is in session. Those can be accessed at the following website. It includes a sign-up option to receive these updates via email.

Legislative bill pre-file begins on December 1. In January, our subcommittee will provide you a preview of the higher-education bills that have been pre-filed at that point.

In the meantime, below are a few articles that we felt would be of interest to the membership that have come out since this summer. A primary one to highlight is the first, which relates to new restrictions on colleges and universities to withhold course credit on transcripts for courses paid for with federal money. These new regulations will affect most of our institutions in terms of our transcript release processes.
